SoNo
As lofts and condos increase in popularity, they keep popping up around town, sometimes in clusters, and often have the ability to transform neighborhoods for the better. One such area that is planned for major development and improvements is SoNo, the area South of North Ave. on Peachtree Street down to the edge of downtown right before the Connector overpass at Suntrust Plaza, across from Max Lager’s American Grill and Brewery. Currently the area is home to a variety of non residential concerns such as Crawford Long Hospital, Bank of America Plaza (the 20th tallest building in the world), various churches, and the Shakespeare Tavern. There is also a large homeless population, served by an area soup kitchen and an adult novelty store.
The neighborhood is in walking distance to the Fabulous Fox Theatre, area restaurants such as Mick’s, Broadway Diner, Gladys Knight’s Chicken and Waffles, Bella Cucina, Max Lager’s Grill and Brewery, The Pleasant Peasant, Bridgetown Grill, Baraonda, Blimpie, Agatha’s Dinner Theater, and amenties such as Publix Supermarket, Emory Crawford Long Hospital, Barley’s Billiards, Washington Mutual, U.S. Post Office, and many others. Further more, many of the new residential developments have retail and restaurants included, bringing more amenties and closer to your door.
With Midtown booming with large condo and office projects to the north and downtown with the sports venues and aquarium, Sono is ideally located for a surge in development. As part of the area that Central Atlanta Progress represents, SoNo should see rapid changes as have happened in other downtown neighborhoods such as Castleberry Hills. The Reynolds is a condo project by Urban Realty Partners due for completion in April 2006. As this area rapidly develops, more new contruction and convertions will take place.
